Where is Kensington Gardens?

Kensington Gardens is situated, next door and to the east of, Hyde Park and was originally, part of Hyde Park. The boundary between the two areas is vague, although the distinction between them is pretty obvious: Hyde Park is an open piece of land, i.e. a park and the gardens at Kensington Gardens are just that - flower beds and magnificent, landscaped trees. The solitude of the Italian Gardens and the sunken Dutch Garden sharply, contrasting the openness of surrounding Hyde Park.

About Kensington Gardens

Kensington Garden's 111 hectares, were landscaped in a formal way, on the request of William IV, in order for them to become the official gardens of Kensington Palace. The palace is hidden amongst the trees, with its famous rectangular pond in the foreground.

A bronze, statue of Peter Pan graces the pond as a reminder of the children’s swings, kindly donated by the author and creator of Peter Pan. The statue is adorned with fairies, elves and small, woodland creatures and is a firm favourite with children and adults alike.

Outside the Palace is a statue of Queen Victoria, which was sculpted by Princess Louise, her daughter, to commemorate her 50th year as Queen of England. The Albert Memorial also, proudly stands in the Royal Gardens. This was commissioned by Queen Victoria, along with the Italian Gardens.

The clock tower is an interesting feature of the park and the Elfin Oak is another popular attraction. There is so much to see and do in Kensington Gardens, it is worth a visit.
